2019
Kristu Jayanti College of law celebrated the Human Rights Day on 10th December 2019 at 11:00 a.m .The chief guest of the day was Professor Madabhushi Shridhar Aacharyulu, former central information commissioner. He began the session by raising a question what is human rights? Human rights is a right where the state has an involvement, some of the examples are Right to Information or Right to good governance. Every right written in the constitution is to be accessible or held responsible by the government. He quoted Nelson Mandela and said that the only way for social development is through education. Right to Information deals with information of an individual’s right. Right to Information is a crucial part of every human rights. Every information has a right associated with it and every right has a piece of information but Right to Information does not guarantee any details regarding the personal information of a person. A piece of information will help you to know your Human Rights or else an individual will be blind with knowing his/her rights. The forum was then opened for questions where one of the students asked the question that will there be a complete 100% transparency by the government of India to which the respected chief guest replied that there might be 100% Success rate or 100% failure but one can never assure 100% transparency in the country. Another question which was raised by the students was where do one draw the line between privacy and Right to Information and who guarantees it to which the respected sir said that no one can guarantee it, it can only exist in a civilized economy which is not yet attained by our country. Privacy and Right to Information coexist in an economy. Right to Information will never include personal information.
